THE CALL OF CTHULHU
I once dreamt of a land
on a lost island
faraway from human civilization
never had I seen anything so compelling
yet so horrifically unnatural
it defied all the laws of gravity
hence there was no way of knowing the difference between up or down
the city was built with some kind of strange alien geometry
grime fascination pulled me forward
like an invisible thread
compelling me towards the temple rising from the middle of the metropolis
I could hear the chorus of hysterical voices
repeatedly chanting
‘Eia Eia Cthulhu Fatargen’
‘Eia Eia Cthulhu Fatargen’
before the mighty temple where two large stone slabs
that towered above me
both were at least ten stories tall
and each was carved with violent scenes of slaughter and gargantuan hieroglyphics
as the chanting continued
came the earsplitting shriek of ancient of gears
turning for the first time in centuries
the stone slabs immediately started opening
I was hit by a gust of stale air
the unforgettably putrid odor of a thousand corpses suspended in an eternal state of rot
from deep within the building
came a wet slobbering sound
followed by thundering footsteps
I could feel the pit of dread that was forming in my stomach
but couldn't bring myself to look away from the thing that emerged
to save my life
it's size was unfathomable
it had to bend in order to fit through the door
as it rose to it full size
it did not exist on the scale of any earthly creature
not even Goliath
it's eyes were like hot red coals
set into larger protrusions
like the body of the octopus
where it's mouth should have been
a tangle of riving tentacles hung down
like some kind of abhorrent beard
it had a pair of leathery wings spread out from the muscles on its back
each of it's dripping green fins ended in five talons
larger than the mast of a ship
it was as scary as it could get
the chanting had stopped
the creature roared
it was unlike anything I had ever heard before
it bowed before the high priestess
who then told it to go forth and rain destruction on all of mankind
making the earth fit for the return of the elder ones
it stood up and turned it's gaze upon me
my blood ran cold
it roared again
somehow the roar was in a language that was comprehensible
‘come little one’
it seemed to say
'let's restore the earth to it's original stat
