IF SKIPPING MEALS IS NOT THE ACTUAL CAUSE OF ULCER, THEN WHAT IS THE ACT
Ulcers are not caused by skipping a meal or two, although, healthy diet can prevent ulcers.
What Causes Ulcer?
Ulcers are painful sores found in the lining of the Stomach (known as a gastric ulcer) or Small intestine (known as a duodenal ulcer). In general, ulcers are often called peptic ulcers to indicate they occur in the digestive tract. Ulcer is caused by a Bacterium called Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), this bacteria survive in the stomach of humans, it is transmitted through contaminated food and water. Research has it that approximately 50% of the world's population has Helicobacter pylori in their stomach, which survive there as a commensal organism. The Helicobacter pylori does two things, first it produces the enzyme Urease which neutralize the acidity of the stomach, and secondly it moves down to the stomach cells using it's flagella (use for locomotion), and this two processes creates the hole in the stomach called ulcer. Long-term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) and naproxen sodium (Aleve) can also lead to peptic ulcers.
When we skip meals the gastric juice produced by the mucosal layer of the stomach to help in digesting food, would still be produced and when it gets into the hole created already it causes the stomach wall to destroy more and more. People without H.pylori, don't rapidly come down with ulcer even if they skip meals for a while, (think of people that go on fasting), unlike people with Helicobacter pylori. Infection with H.pylori decreases with increase in hygiene practices.
If you start eating well thinking it will cure ulcer (sores in the stomach), It won't, Ulcer can be Prevented by healthy diet not cured. When the hole in your stomach is already there you need treatment, you have to go and see a Physician, get diagnosed and be given the proper treatment. Ulcers are sores that need to heal. Your doctor will treat your ulcer based on what is causing it.If your ulcer is caused by H.pylori bacteria, you may need to take antibiotics and acid-reducing medication. If your ulcer is caused by a certain medication, you may need to stop taking that medication.
