5 HEALTHY HABITS TO MAINTAIN DURING PREGNANCY
5 Healthy habits to maintain during pregnancy
Pregnancy is a special time in a woman's life, but it can also bring some challenges and changes. To keep yourself and your baby healthy, it's important to follow some healthy habits during pregnancy. Here are some tips to help you:
- Eat a balanced diet. Include plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and healthy fats in your meals and snacks. Avoid foods that are high in sugar, salt, or fat. Drink plenty of water and limit your intake of caffeine and alcohol.
- Take prenatal vitamins. Your doctor may prescribe you a prenatal vitamin that contains folic acid, iron, calcium, and other nutrients that are essential for your baby's development. Take it every day as directed and don't take more than the recommended dose.
- Exercise regularly. Physical activity can help you cope with stress, improve your mood, strengthen your muscles, and prevent excess weight gain. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week, but check with your doctor before starting or changing your routine. Choose activities that are safe and comfortable for you, such as walking, swimming, yoga, or pilates.
- Get enough rest. Pregnancy can make you feel tired and sleepy, especially in the first and third trimesters. Try to get at least eight hours of sleep every night and take naps during the day if you need to. Avoid using your phone, computer, or TV before bed and make sure your bedroom is dark, quiet, and cool.
- Avoid smoking and drugs. Smoking and using drugs can harm your baby's growth and development and increase the risk of complications such as low birth weight, premature birth, birth defects, or miscarriage. If you smoke or use drugs, talk to your doctor about how to quit safely and get the support you need.
