5 PROVEN WAYS TO SUCCESS JUST BY SETTING GOALS; A STEP BY STEP GUIDE.
At the beginning of the year, many of us create New Year resolutions. We think about what we didn't or didn't accomplish last year, and create new hopes and dreams for the coming year.
Unfortunately, not everyone knows the difference between a resolution and a goal and a few understand how to set goals and achieve them successfully.
Goals: what are they, and what aren't they? The word "goals" is thrown around a lot these days. So much that it can be confusing what a goal really is. A goal is something you want to achieve. Its desired result that you or a group of people, plan and commit to achieving.
But a goal is not a dream or a hope. I hope of owning my own home, I hope to take care of my health. Those are great and admirable dreams, but they are not goals.
HOW TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS
1. TACKLE YOUR SCARY THOUGHTS
let's get real for a moment, your goals can be scary, sometimes you set the goal doubting if you can do this, sometimes you have tried accomplishing your goals and you have failed countlessly; the thought of fulfilling your goals seem unrealistic right?
But wait; take a pause look at those goals and find a tiny bit of a realistic thought that will help you reframe what that negative thought is telling you, so if the voice say you cannot do it, look out for the goals you've achieved and reframe it, like 'I have managed my money'or 'It is possible I can learn to manage my money'
Because most times, if your body is going one direction and your mind another direction, there is no way you can achieve those goals.
2. CONSIDER YOUR PASSIONS
Part of the process of setting goals for yourselves is also considering your passion. You cannot set goals in areas you're not interested in. look for what inspires you and what will make you sit awake all night and still won't wear you out.
Your goals should be meaningful to you and provide you with a sense of pride once you meet them.
3. IMAGINE YOUR FUTURE
Imagine for a moment how you want your vacations in the Bahamas will be like?
How much money will you have to make to go on that trip or if you're setting goals for personal career, ask yourself how much you really want to earn?
How many hours do you want to commit to on a daily basis?
These questions might not immediately help you pick a career goal but it can help you realize what you don't want your career goals to be like.
4. SCHEDULE THE TIME TO DO ALL THE TASKS.
Once you have a full list of tasks to do, write them and consult your calendar. On Monday by 3pm, you will look at your spending habit, on Wednesday by 12pm; you look at the meeting you have to attend. Work your way through the list, one step at the time.
Scheduling each task can be a great way to manage your giant list. So when 3pm on Monday comes around, all you have to do is that one thing. You don't have to worry about all other steps. You've already planned when you will do each one.
Scheduling each step toward your goal is critical to achieving them successfully.
5. DON'T BEAT YOURSELF UP IF YOU FALL OFF A FEW TIMES
Habit changes can be hard; it is really difficult to reach new goals. This is you asking yourself to stretch, to grow and also to try new things out. Although there will be times when you want to just stop and take the day out watching your favourite movie on Netflix.
But if your kind to yourself, and realize that no one is perfect, you are more likely to keep moving forward and ultimately get where you want to go.
Is it hard? Yes
Can you do it? Yes
Will you complain and cry every step of the way while still doing what you have to do? Also yes
“In the long run, men hit only what they aim at. Therefore, they had better aim at something”- Henry David Thoreau.
While we can't control everything that happens to us, we can control ourselves by setting goals to achieve our big dreams and gaining success. Follow through this step to step guide and you'll be off to a good start.
