2027: ATIKU HAS NO CHANCE IN PDP, WIKE ASSERTS
ABUJA : Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has dismissed the prospect of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar securing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the 2027 general election, stating that it simply won’t happen.
During a live media session on Wednesday evening in Abuja, Wike remarked that Atiku has presented his vision to Nigerians multiple times, only to be repeatedly turned down. Atiku, who was the PDP’s Presidential Candidate in the 2023 election, recently noted that if he had won, he would have taken different actions from those of President Bola Tinubu, potentially alleviating the current hardships facing Nigerians.
In response, Wike said, "Didn’t he (Atiku) already share his blueprint with Nigerians? They heard him and chose otherwise. He’s seeking another chance, but it’s just not there. In which party? How long can we keep relying on one individual?"
Drawing a comparison to American politics, Wike added, “Look at the U.S. Many did not support Trump, citing various reasons, yet Americans made a decision for their country’s future.”
He concluded, “Atiku shared his vision in 2023. Nigerians listened and respectfully declined. Criticizing current leadership doesn’t mean the opposition is necessarily effective.”
