MICHELLE OBAMA EMERGES AS THE ONLY DEMOCRAT LEADING TRUMP IN NEW POLL

Former First Lady Michelle Obama is the only Democrat to surpass former President Donald Trump in a new poll released Tuesday. The survey, conducted by Reuters/Ipsos, found Obama leading Trump in a hypothetical match-up, securing 50 percent support to his 39 percent. Only 4 percent of respondents said they would abstain from voting.

 

Meanwhile, the poll revealed that President Joe Biden and Trump are tied in a direct contest, each receiving 40 percent of the vote. Additionally, 8 percent of respondents indicated they would vote for someone else, and another 8 percent said they would not vote.

 

According to a Rasmussen Reports poll released in February, Obama was the top choice among Democrats to replace Biden on the 2024 ticket. Despite her popularity, the former First Lady has repeatedly stated she will not run for the White House.

 

The poll follows a challenging debate performance from Biden last week, where he appeared to stumble over his words and lacked energy. This performance has led some Democrats to call for him to step down from the ballot to allow someone else to take the lead.

 

Other Democrats considered as potential replacements for Biden in the poll included Vice President Kamala Harris, who received 42 percent in a head-to-head match-up with Trump, who garnered 43 percent. California Governor Gavin Newsom trailed Trump by 3 percentage points, while Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer lagged by 5 points in a hypothetical contest with the presumptive GOP nominee.

 

While the Reuters/Ipsos poll does not indicate Biden losing ground to Trump, other post-debate polls have suggested otherwise. The survey did find, however, that about one in three Democrats believe Biden should drop out of the race.

 

In response to concerns about Biden’s debate performance, the White House and the Biden campaign have attempted to reassure supporters and dismissed calls for the president to suspend his campaign.
