CAUSES OF PEER PRESSURE
Causes of Peer Pressure
There are many reasons why young people easily fall under the influence of peer pressure.
1. The first and most common cause is the desire to belong and be accepted by others. Every young person wants to feel included, respected, and loved by their friends or social group, and this longing often leads them to copy behaviors they do not truly agree with.
2. Another cause is low self-esteem. Many youths doubt their worth and depend on others’ opinions to feel valued, making them more likely to follow the crowd.
3. Social media influence has also worsened this problem by setting unrealistic standards for beauty, success, and popularity. When young people compare themselves to what they see online, they feel pressured to act or look a certain way just to gain attention.
4. A lack of proper guidance from parents, teachers, and mentors leaves many youths vulnerable to the wrong kind of influence.
5. Finally, the fear of rejection or isolation pushes young people to do what others expect, even when they know it is wrong.
These factors combine to make peer pressure one of the most powerful challenges faced by young people in today’s world.
