WHERE MY SOUL MEETS ALLAH:FAITH IN THE SMALL THINGS
Let's talk about something real
“Faith”. What does it mean to you?
Let me help you process it—through the definitions of others, and through my own.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), whom we Muslims follow, said faith is to believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, and to believe in divine decree (Qadar—destiny).
Jesus Christ—Prophet Isa (peace be upon him)—said that faith is trust in God, even when you can’t see Him.
It should be active—not just belief, but obedience. Even a small amount of sincere faith can lead to great results.
Faith is something you explore every day.
You wake up.
You doubt.
You remember.
You try again.
Faith in God—faith in Allah (SWT)—is a lifelong journey. A process we keep exploring for as long as we live.
And to me, that’s the beauty of faith: that the soul can always return to belief and reconnect with Allah.
It means we can always meet Allah again.
Even when our faith wavers, the soul continues to seek.
At some point in every human life, we lose that connection.
Sometimes for a short while.
Other times, for so long that we begin to wonder if we ever truly had faith at all.
The first time I found my faith again, I was reading the Qur'an after solah.
It was a struggle that led me back to Allah (SWT).
And for a long time, I believed that if I hadn’t struggled, I wouldn’t have found my way back.
Now, each time I lose my way and return, I realize it’s a blessing.
That I can return.
That my soul remembers the way.
And in those moments, I begin to see faith in everything:
People.
Animals.
Dressing.
Food.
Even in the things that are haram.
(No, I’m not encouraging anyone to commit haram—but if you ever find yourself in that place, remember this: you can still bring yourself back. Sometimes, recognizing faith in your brokenness is what pulls you home.)
So this is what faith means to me.
I’ve learned, discovered, journeyed, and realized—faith doesn’t have to be defined solely by what others say.
Faith is what God says it is.
To you.
Or to the people He sent to guide you.
It’s the obedience that stops you from hurting someone.
The reminder to be kind to your mother.
The goosebumps when you hear the Qur'an—or the Bible.
It’s the journey, the questions, the aching, the returning.
It’s everything it took for you to discover what faith means to you.
So I ask again:
What does faith mean to you?
Not to your parents.
Not your teacher.
Not your religious leader.
To you.
Right here.
Right now.
