WHAT YOU LISTEN TO, REFLECTS IN YOUR ACTIONS AND THOUGHTS
Tragedy struck when Ijiola, a sales worker at Ajanlekoko Supermarket, took his own life just a few days ago. Investigation reveals that he frequently listens to music that conveys sad emotions and has a traumatising lyrics.
The investigator announced that Ijiola could have committed suicide due to the songs he listened to. I searched online for the owner of the songs, I Β was shocked to discover what I saw.
The owner of the songs died ten years ago. Further research revealed that he lived a traumatised life, so he was able to pass the strong emotions he had experienced to his songs. Isn't it touching...? Anyone who listens to the music captures the music's message to his/her heart and becomes ensnared to sad emotions or mood swings.
Well... As we know, music is a universal language, evoking emotions across cultures. Who doesn't listen to music? Particularly in today's Nigeria's challenging economy, everyone sure does. Some listen to music to relieve stress, get rid of their burdens, kill boredom, and many more.Β
Music plays different roles in the lives of different individuals, and if you would agree with me, music is capable of evoking emotions either positively or negativelyΒ
I guess someone is thinking, how does music affect our mood? Why would Ijiola fall victim to suicide by listening to music? Can this be the cause of his death?
Do you know that "πΎπππ πππ ππππππ ππ, ππππππππ ππ ππππ πππππππ πππ ππππππππ"?
Whenever we listen to music, the rate of blood movement in our body increases to brain regions to generate and control emotions. The part of the human brain involved in emotions and motivation (limbic system) gets turned on when our ears perceive music.
The chills we feel when we hear a piece of music may be the result of dopamine (this triggers a sensation of pleasure and well-being). As your brain becomes familiar with a particular song, your body may release dopamine upon hearing the few rhythms/beats of the song. This tends to affect our moods.
The music we listen to influences us positively or negatively. Some of which you know are: to reduce stress and anxiety, improve mood, reduce symptoms of depression, promote relaxation and sleep quality, etc.
Moreover, music soothes our souls, and anything that enters the soul has a great effect on our wills, emotions, and intellect. From a scientific point of view, Ijiola could have committed suicide because of the songs he listened to.
As individuals, we need to filtre the kind of music we listen to. Though there is a lot of music flying around, corrupting souls, we need to guard our souls from this kind of music to prevent evoking negative emotions, aggression, and irritability.
Have you ever listened to or perceived music through your ears whose tempo energises or calms you? How did you feel before the music was played and after you listened to the music? Share in the comments.
