BUSINESSMAN KILLED BY STRAY BULLET AMID PROTESTS IN KEBBI
In Kebbi state's Yauri local government area, a businessman was fatally struck by a stray bullet during a violent protest. The incident occurred while he was working in his plastic goods shop near the Yauri river.
Malam Umar Bako Yelwa, who confirmed the event, reported that the protest escalated when demonstrators blocked the federal highway, halting traffic into Yauri town. During the confrontation, marine police allegedly fired into the crowd, and a stray bullet hit the businessman. His identity has not yet been released.
Efforts to reach the Kebbi State Command of the Nigeria Police for a comment were unsuccessful. SP Nafiu Abubakar, the police spokesperson, did not respond to calls or text messages seeking information.
Although the situation remains calm in the state capital, Birnin Kebbi, following the prolonged protest, there is growing concern among local residents about safety measures and the handling of public disturbances. The state government is urged to address the underlying issues and ensure the protection of both residents and businesses.
